Susan Kare is the graphic artist from the 80's who designed pixel art for Apple. She developed her work by drawing heavily on her fine art experience in mosaic, needlepoint and pointillism. Susan brought us the arrow cursor, the trash can and the 'document' icon with the turned-up page corner, and many other designs over the years of working in the industry. Her designs have been exhibited at the MOMA in NYC and are considered "simple, elegant and whimsical". I'd like to think she would REALLY love this hat. Its simple graphic black and white design reminds me of the world she created. I could see her leaving her office at the end of a long workday, re-entering the city late at night. She'd don this hat as she passed through the revolving door at the front of the building, the cold air striking her awake, and this hat would keep her warm her as she retreated from her work to her home. -
Growing up I was blessed to be surrounded with strong, intelligent and kind women. My grandmother Katherine took time to nurture my interests, teach me things, and experience the world alongside me. Kind, silly and fun to be around as a young child, she was a grandmother who told stories like they’re secrets meant only for you. There are pictures of her in the 1930's in her long felt coats walking on the high street in England arm in arm with a friend. She isn't rich, but she's refined and every detail of her outfit is chosen with care. She understood accessories and in a time when women were expected to dress modestly and blend in, she chose to stand out, not with extravagance, but with intention. Katherine dresses not to match — but to lead. This hat isn’t an accessory. It’s a signature. -

This year the shift from summer to Autumn happened overnight. 27C degrees dropping to 14C for a daytime high, it is as if Mother Nature hit a switch and nature's fall transformation was underway. Evenings became cool and dark while morning darkness lingered. Leaves began to turn almost instantly. People started reaching for their sweaters and cozy clothes, turning their fans and air conditioning off... This hat is what you need to reach for, to help ease the transition into autumn and winter. It reminds me of cold dark nights and a warm fire, meeting friends at a pub or cozy meeting place. Despite being a depiction of Van Gogh's Apricot blossoms (read springtime), the color is reminiscent of the long sunsets in the fall that glow with deep blue colors, as the darkness filters in.
