This year the shift from summer to Autumn happened overnight. 27C degrees dropping to 14C for a daytime high, it is as if Mother Nature hit a switch and nature’s fall transformation was underway. Evenings became cool and dark while morning darkness lingered. Leaves began to turn almost instantly. People started reaching for their sweaters and cozy clothes, turning their fans and air conditioning off… This hat is what you need to reach for, to help ease the transition into autumn and winter. It reminds me of cold dark nights and a warm fire, meeting friends at a pub or cozy meeting place. Despite being a depiction of Van Gogh’s Apricot blossoms (read springtime), the color is reminiscent of the long sunsets in the fall that glow with deep blue colors, as the darkness filters in.

Description
The Gossamer hat is a Trish Raine-developed hat, handmade by fusing merino wool and chiffon silk in a process of wet felting (nuno felting). This hat has silk on the outside of the hat, and is lined with a different silk. A thin layer of merino wool is felted between the two layers of silk essentially “gluing” them together. This means that it will be comfortable on your head, soft on your hair and will breathe, allowing air to flow right through.
This gossamer hat is a VERY thin felt and as such does not have much structure to it, so will easily fold up in a purse. Each fold is hand-sewn into place to keep the shape of the hat.
This hat is wonderful for fall or spring, or if you have cooler summer nights. It is good in the winter, but not warm enough for very cold temperatures (but fits fabulously under a hood)! Perfect to be worn inside, and with silk as a liner, gentle on one’s scalp if experiencing hair loss.
This hat fits a small sized head 21.5-22.25″. If you have questions about fit, please let me know.
“I am such an autumn person. Give me a quiet, cozy spot with a view of the changing trees on a crisp, late September day, a warm drink, and a good book and I will be in all my glory.” – unknown.
