This hat is best described by a song by Tenille Townes – wanting to reclaim her fierce, carefree self, indulging in the beauty and pace of the smaller moments in life.

“The girl who didn’t care”:

“I wanna worry a little less, love a little more
Barefoot in a dress, dancing on the floor
Like I did, back when, when I was younger
Making up the songs, playing in my head
Didn’t matter what anybody said
Didn’t need to be like all the others
Giant dreams and wild hair
Yeah, I know she’s still in there somewhere
The girl who didn’t care”

Description

The Gossamer hat is a Trish Raine-developed hat, handmade by fusing merino wool and chiffon silk in a process of wet felting (nuno felting).  This hat has silk on the outside of the hat, and is lined with a different silk.  A thin layer of merino wool is felted between the two layers of silk essentially “gluing” them together.  This means that it will be comfortable on your head, soft on your hair and will breathe, allowing air to flow right through.

This gossamer hat is a VERY thin felt and as such does not have much structure to it, so will easily fold up in a purse.  Each fold  is hand-sewn into place to keep the shape of the hat.  The floral silk was upcycled from an upcycled silk dress.

This hat is wonderful for fall or spring, or if you have cooler summer nights. It is good in the winter, but not warm enough for very cold temperatures (but fits fabulously under a hood)! Perfect to be worn inside, and with silk as a liner, gentle on one’s scalp if experiencing hair loss.

This hat fits a large head 23.0-24.0″.  If you have questions about fit, please let me know.

“I wanna go driving down a gravel road
Wanna see the whole sky
One airplane hand out the window
I wanna marvel at a lightning bug
Go ahead and get lost in the wonder of the smaller stuff
I miss my imagination
Maybe it’s been waiting”  – Tenille Townes, Girl Who Didn’t Care
