The silk for this gossamer hat was up-cycled from a very intricately beaded silk blouse. SO vibrant with fabulous detail, this hat reminds me of my garden right now (August)! Heaps of colorful perennials providing pollen and nectar to honeybees, hummingbirds and various other flying insects. I will often sit quietly and watch the action around my garden beds, witnessing the little ecosystem and marveling in its beauty. That feeling, that “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh”, is what this hat does to me. Capture summer and take that feeling of calm and warmth with you into your winter and fall seasons with this gorgeous gossamer hat.

Description
The Gossamer hat is a Trish Raine-developed hat, handmade by fusing merino wool and silk in a process of wet felting (nuno felting). This hat has beaded silk on the outside of the hat and is fully lined with a different soft silk on the inside. A thin layer of merino wool is felted between the two layers of silk, essentially “gluing” them together. This means that it will be comfortable on your head, soft on your hair and will breathe.
This gossamer hat is a VERY thin felt and does not have much structure to it, so will easily fold up in a purse. Each fold is hand-sewn into place to keep the shape of the hat. This particular gossamer hat is incredibly versatile, as it allows the wearer to choose if you want the bulk of the beret crown to fall to the right or left side! (see pictures as a reference).
This hat is wonderful for fall or spring, or if you have cooler summer nights. It is good in the winter, but not warm enough for very cold temperatures (but fits fabulously under a hood)! Perfect to be worn inside, and with silk as a hat liner, gentle on one’s scalp if experiencing hair loss.
