I have had this beaded silk material for years. Sometimes I let silks sit a year or two until I realize the amazing hat I want to make with them. Recently while thrift shopping I picked up a black and navy floral scarf that I intended to offer to my niece for her hat. On closer inspection I realized that it was a perfect match for the beaded flower silk, and I scooped it up for myself! This is the resulting hat, a GORGEOUS hat from all angles, the beads and sequins and sculptural elements. Subtle yet glamorous, it can be dressed up for a night out and worn casually with a high-neck sweater to get your morning coffee…

This hat is handmade felt. The silk fabrics are fused with raw merino wool in a process of wet felting called nuno felting. Once the fabric/felt hood is created, it is blocked over a vintage heated block and shaped by hand. This cloche is perfect for keeping the weather off your hair while covering your ears in cold weather. There is plenty of room in the hat to house your hair and the sweetheart cutout means that glasses won’t press against your face. Comfort and sensibility but all people will realize is how stunning this looks on you.
