This hat is dreamy to me.  A garden on a clear, blue-sky day with flowers on display for you to admire and observe.  Wearing this flower garden on your head outside of summer or springtime to me drops into the bonus column of why this hat is fabulous….but it is not for everybody.

It is a funny thing as a milliner (hat maker), I LOVE this piece, yet it won’t draw all people the same way it does me.  While selling hats I’ve learned that I really cannot predict which hats will sell first, and am constantly surprised at what gets attention with each sale.  As Jackie says, no single sort of garden suits everyone.

(I still cannot wait to see who takes Jackie home).  🙂

Description

The Gossamer hat is a Trish Raine-developed hat, handmade by fusing merino wool and chiffon silk in a process of wet felting (nuno felting).  This hat has silk on the outside of the hat, and is lined with a different silk.  A thin layer of merino wool is felted between the two layers of silk essentially “gluing” them together.  This means that it will be comfortable on your head, soft on your hair and will breathe, allowing air to flow right through.

This gossamer hat is a VERY thin felt and as such does not have much structure to it, so will easily fold up in a purse.  Each fold  is hand-sewn into place to keep the shape of the hat. This hat is wonderful for fall or spring, or if you have cooler summer nights. It is good in the winter, but not warm enough for very cold temperatures (but fits fabulously under a hood)! Perfect to be worn inside, and with silk as a liner it is gentle on one’s scalp if experiencing hair loss.

This hat fits a small sized head 21.5-22.5″.  If you have questions about fit, please let me know.

“No single sort of garden suits everyone. Shut your eyes and dream of the garden you’d most love then open your eyes and start planting. Loved gardens flourish, boring ones are hard work.” —Jackie French
