I like to think that Eva Tanguay would have worn this hat.  A Canadian singer and entertainer who billed herself as “the girl who made Vaudeville famous”, she was known as the Queen of Vaudeville during the height of her popularity in the early 1900s.  Eva appeared in films and was the first performer to achieve national mass-media celebrity, earning $3500 per week at the height of her career.  She spent lavishly on publicity campaigns and costumes thereby gaining free press with outrageous behavior.

I feel like this hat is for a smart, forward thinking, style-conscious woman like Eva, the original “it” girl.  Imagine what she’d have done with the social media of today!!!

Description

This hat is handmade felt.  The silk fabric is from a thrifted silk scarf and is fused with raw merino wool in a process of wet felting (nuno felting).  Once the fabric/felt hood is created, it is blocked over a vintage heated block and shaped by hand. This cloche is warm, and perfect for keeping the weather off your hair while covering your ears in cold weather.  There is plenty of room in the hat to house your hair and can even be folded up and tucked into a purse if you need to remove it while inside.

This hat fits a larger-sized head, 22.5-23.25″ in circumference.  If you have any questions about size, please contact me.
