This gossamer hat has the most vivid display of sequined flowers arranged with sequined ribbons across the hat. This millinery composition led me to to the story of Constance Spry, a British educator, florist and author. In the early 1900’s Constance’s passion for flowers transformed the art of flower arrangement and inspired generations. She admired the beauty and diversity of flowers, foliage and branches. She looked to the Dutch painters for inspiration and unusual materials in her arrangements. Her company created the flower arrangements for two royal weddings and she was appointed an OBE in 1953.
I would like to think she would love this hat. Constance understood the therapeutic benefits of working with flowers and would have loved to have had this “arrangement” to wear atop her head, anytime. For those of you who love to work with flowers/nature, use flowers as a creative expression and understand their therapeutic benefits and emotional expression… this one is for you.
