I’m going to let you in on a Behind-the-scenes moment for Trish Raine.  Sometimes I struggle with creating pieces and this hat was a  battle royale.  I made the felt, then hemmed and hawed at the resulting hood.  I discussed the merino wool fibre with a friend and finally decided to make a soft fedora.  Once made, I longingly searched my many containers full of bands, bows, ribbon, flowers and feathers to come up with a finish that I would be pleased with.  I ended up upcycling a be-jeweled t-shirt I’d been wearing for years, plucking the hundreds of odd-shaped jewels into a bowl, then randomly sewing them onto this hat.

The result is a stunningly beautiful fedora I would call a showpiece.  It has sweet flowers, leopard print and green delicate foliage that peers from around the jeweled crown.  So soft and comfortable to wear, it oozes casual elegance.  It was well-worth the battle and patience to persevere.

“I try to make it look easy, but the behind the scenes stuff is the challenge”.  – Stephen Curry

Description

This hat is made “from scratch” by fusing upcycled silk  and merino wool by hand in a process called nuno (wet) felting.  Once the felt is formed, the hat is stiffened and shaped over a fedora block.  It features a soft and deep crown.  There is a elasticated band on the inside of the hat to hold it in place on your head.  The gems are all applied by hand along with the felt cut-outs, adorning the crown.

This fedora fits a large-sized head, 23.25-24.00″ in size.  If you have questions about fit, please let me know.

“Both film and fashion are businesses where the audience doesn’t feel or see the work that goes on behind the scenes” – Tom Ford

p.s. Lucy is an old-soul rescue Pitbull from Georgia.  She wasn’t sure about why we weren’t walking in the woods.  Instead I think the crouching and posing made her fairly curious as she typically watched from just out of camera shot.  🙂
